No, the car was not purchased to cheer me up. Karen and I had been discussing the possibility of a new car back in the spring of 2018 because our two cars were 12 and 14 years old. They had none of today's modern safety features, and the 12-year old Honda Civic Hybrid was starting to fall apart in some respects. (The power door locks were no longer working; the engine was running rough, etc.)
So once we got back on our feet after the cancer diagnosis, we chose to take advantage of Toyota's special end-of-year pricing and bought the Camry.
I must say that having a new car is a great way to distract yourself from the sorrows of having cancer.
