Early Christmas present

Updated: Dec 6, 2021

Today Dr. Brooks said that because David's mouth still has not completely healed and his blood counts are still low, David shouldn't get more chemo for now. So David gets a break from chemo (yay!). Instead, Dr. Brooks drew blood to see what David's CEA tumor marker is now.

The plan is to see what the CEA level is from today's test and to do another test on 1/4/22. As long as the CEA stays low, we'll just watch it and not do chemo. But if it starts rising again, then Dr. Brooks will decide what type of chemo David should get next. He might try a different type (one of the older types) or see if there's a clinical trial that sounds promising. Dr. Brooks said currently there are no trials that sound appropriate.

David feels a bit better each day that he's off chemo (today was day 45 since the last dose). So we're hoping that means his mouth will be completely healed by Christmas and food will be tasting good again...just in time for the holidays.

In the meantime, we'll be wishing you and your loved ones the happiest of holidays!
